celebration, indeed

Today was the first day of classes at Columbia, and thankfully, I only had two dance classes and elementary Japanese. And one of the dance classes was cancelled too, so it was essentially the easiest day I’ve ever had.
And so I was able to find two excuses to drink: first day of Spring 2010 and easiest school day of my life. The trouble was, Cindy was incredibly jet lagged and not up for the “traditional” first-day-of-classes tequila shots. I also had to run through Rite Aid, Duane Reade, Westside Market and Dag Fresh Market in a futile midnight attempt to get some shot glasses.
Needless to say, our semester of debauchery was off to a dismal start. I was sober. Cindy was sleepy. None of my friends were reachable by phone. Finally, finding my neighbour S up to drinking and eager to “start a tab at my place, as she puts it, I grabbed my first beer of 2010. To the semester! And so, we drank.
